Grounding

Earthing (also know as Grounding) is the act of making bodily contact with the earth—skin with earth.

Written by Takuma Ono

As strange as this sounds, those living in industrialized nations frequently go days, weeks, or even months without making bodily contact with earth—and these long periods of disconnect have detrimental consequences on health. Earthing engages the electric charge of the body with the electrons on the earth’s surface—and this engagement re-calibrates the body’s charge, which results in improved sleep, reduced inflammation, alongside many other benefits. (just think about the cascading impacts of low-quality sleep!) If you live in a residential high rise or wear rubber sole shoes all day, take this moment to find the nearest lawn and stand bare footed!

Electrical activities play critical and essential roles in our bodily functions (e.g. heart, nerves, mitochondria)—and researchers studying earthing build a case for how direct contact with the earth’s surface can help regulate these functions.
